This course is an introduction for environmental engineers, scientists and others involved in developing an ISO 14001 environmental management system (EMS) for an organization.
The ISO 14000 family addresses various aspects of environmental management. The very first two standards, ISO 14001 2004 and ISO 14004 2004 cover environmental management systems. The 14001:2004 standard provides the requirements for an EMS and the ISO 14004:2004 standard gives general EMS guidelines. The other standards and guidelines in the family address specific environmental aspects, including: labeling, performance evaluation, life cycle analysis, communication and auditing. The instructor explains the ISO 14000 series of standards in detail and includes auditing the requirements of the standard.

• Interpretation of the clauses of ISO 14001:2004
• Understanding the importance and benefits of an environmental management systems

• Auditing to requirements
• Techniques and skills needed to audit an organization
• Identification of nonconformities
• Purpose and content of an audit report
This course is intended to provide a general introduction and an understanding of the requirements and the approach to developing an ISO 14001 environmental EMS for an organization.
